Licensing System
Under the Medical Service Technologists Act, candidates for the radiological technologist license must complete a three- or four-year program in radiological technology or radiological science at an accredited college or university.
To obtain a radiological technologist license in Korea, candidates must pass the national licensing examination administered by the Korea Health Personnel Licensing Examination Institute and receive a license issued by the Minister of Health and Welfare.
As of December 2025, a total of 59,979 individuals have been licensed as radiological technologists in Korea.
For Foreign-Trained Radiological Technologists
Foreign radiological technologist licenses are not automatically recognized in Korea.
Individuals who are currently licensed or working as radiological technologists outside Korea must first confirm whether the foreign school from which they graduated meets the recognition criteria publicly announced by the Minister of Health and Welfare.
The review process for foreign school recognition is handled through the Korea Health Personnel Licensing Examination Institute. Applicants must first submit the required documents to Kuksiwon for review.
If the applicant’s educational background is ultimately recognized by the Ministry of Health and Welfare, the applicant may become eligible to take the Korean national licensing examination for radiological technologists.
After passing the national licensing examination, applicants may obtain a Korean radiological technologist license. The examination is administered according to the annual schedule announced by Kuksiwon.
Employment requirements may vary depending on the hospital or medical institution to which the applicant wishes to apply. Large university hospitals and other major medical institutions may require additional documents in accordance with their own recruitment policies. Applicants are therefore advised to contact each institution directly for detailed employment requirements.
